First Progressed New Moon Chart

According to Rudhyar’s ‘Progressed Lunation Cycle’ theory this chart reflects Joy Adamson’s life from 1930 to 1960 (Ages 20-50)

In Rudhyar’s Lunation Cycle theory this second chapter of our subject’s life would called their ‘Individuation’ : a 29-to-30 year process in which the socially conditioned personality developed in the previous cycle now, potentially, evolves into something more ‘individual’.

If successful, the sum of this ‘individuality’ is supposedly what we see described in the natal birth-chart, both in terms of ‘personality’ (Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars), ‘social participation’ (Jupiter, Saturn), and underlying ‘purpose’ (Sun, Lunation Type, and Pre-birth Lunation symbol) [Note 1].

Rudhyar and Rael plot four theoretical sub-stages for these generic 29-30 year processes in their books : Rudhyar, in ’The Lunation Cycle’ pp.102-227; and Rael, in ’The Lunation Process in Astrological Guidance’, pp.13-27. In this part of the study I thought we might concentrate on these four stages and put the Rudhyar/Rael theories to the test, that’s to say, see if we can MATCH the four theoretical stages of the 30 year cycle to the FACTS revealed by Joy Adamson’s biography.

Following is a precis of how Joy Adamson’s ‘Individuation Cycle’ was ‘supposed’ to unfold (all dates approximate). Remember, this is just Rudhyar’s blueprint, totally theoretical (citations below from Rudhar’s book, ‘Lunation Cycle’) …

1930 – 1937 … The Lunation-to-First-Quarter Phase, which should, supposedly, witness “efforts to overcome the inertia of her past conditioning.”

1938 – 1945 … The First-Quarter-to-Full-Moon Phase, which should, in theory, witness “a definite severance from the past followed by efforts to establish a new ‘individual’ life direction.” [Note 2]

1945 … The ‘Full Moon moment’ of the cycle, the theoretical mid-point, which should, theoretically, bring “a culmination of some type”, after which Joy’s ‘individuation’ could be expected to somehow ‘blossom’.

1945 – 1952 … The Full-Moon-to-Last-Quarter Phase, which should, supposedly, see “the talents and capacities activated in the preceding 15 years now evolving further, through a wider social participation.”

1953 – 1960 … The Last-Quarter-to-next-New-Moon Phase, which supposedly should witness “some sort of ‘final synthesis’, where, whatever does not harmonise with the values and ideals of the individuality evolved to this point will now be let go. In the final years of the process the results of the entire cycle are essentialised and somehow concentrated in a way that becomes the foundation for the future cycle” [Rael, p.11].

OK, that’s the 4-Stage theory for the sub-stages of an ‘Individuation Cycle’, same as it’s supposed to be for everyone. Now let’s look at biographical facts with a view to matching these within that theoretical framework [next comment box].

[Note 1] … Rudhyar seems to imply that the ‘individuation cycle’ for many people however does NOT succeed because the pressure of their family and social conditioning is simply too strong. This ‘inertia’ instead prevails and the person may end up living out the rest of their lives in strict accord to the habits and values they absorbed in childhood, that’s to say, as a strictly ‘normal’ product of their tribe and culture. In these life situations it may be argued that the personality and purpose described by the birth-chart never emerges – or only emerges faintly – in the person.

[Note 2] … Following is an eye-witness account of what constituted “a definite severance from the past followed by efforts to establish a new ‘individual’ life direction” for our subject …

“After a brief honeymoon, the Adamsons spent two months walking around the crocodile-infested shores of Lake Rudolf in northern Kenya. “One of our bearers was impaled by an elephant,” George remembers. “Both of us were nearly killed by rhinos. But Joy discovered some lovely rock engravings. I captured several poachers and learned to call crocodiles. All in all, it was a good trip.” [https://people.com/…/15-years-after-elsa-the-born-free…/]
