Pre-Birth Lunation Chart

“The New Moon before birth is an apt and fitting station with which to begin a study of lunation progressions in a person’s life. The sign of the zodiac in which it occurred, whether it was in the same or preceding sign as the Sun at birth, the degree of the zodiac and particularly the Sabian Symbol for this degree: all these provide significant clues to the tone and direction of the life …” [Leyla Rael, ‘The Lunation Process in Astrological Guidance’, 1984, p.13]

With the New Moon before Mrs Lam’s birth occurring at 9°23’ Taurus we have the following Sabian Symbol as a clue to this “tone and direction of the life” …

9°23’ Taurus : “A Red Cross Nurse.”

… according to Rudhyar, “… a stage of pure altruism and service to the social Whole”, one that implies “… going into the dark to bring life and love to the tormented and deprived” [Dane Rudhyar, ‘An Astrological Mandala, 1974, p.77].

Theoretically then, this was the ’tone’ that parents/teachers/‘life’ conditioned in Mrs Lam from her birth through to the end of this lunation phase around her sixteenth year.

How does the biographic material stand in relation to this symbol? Well, historical notes for this period simply mark her the fourth of five children in a low-income family in outer-suburban Hong Kong, and later head prefect at her local Catholic girl’s school.

If we’re looking for a single factual clue to the tone and direction of Mrs Lam’s whole life we may need to look no further than those ‘Christian’ values conditioned in her in these first 16 years, a tone succinctly symbolised by that degree symbol for Taurus 10°. How pervasive have these values been over the course of her life? It’s hard to tell from available biographic material, though in a 2017 interview* she did make known her belief that “she was answering God’s call when she decided to run for Hong Kong’s top political job as chief executive”; and also that she holds a conviction that “there would a place reserved for her in heaven”. So, yes, the red cross nursery may run deep indeed.

Perhaps also worth noting in the pre-birth lunation chart might be progressed Mars, which aspects natal and progressed Pluto by waxing Sextile. I can’t recall Rudhyar specifically delineating on this aspect anywhere though. My guess is it marks a development of positive (sextile) leadership skills and the art of handling social power – biographically demonstrated perhaps, through her position as head prefect at her high school?
